Background and Objectives

Since its start, New INDIGO has planned and implemented three multilateral calls to enable scientific and innovative cooperation of excellent researchers from Europe and India. These Networking Pilot Programme (NPP) initiatives are currently involving STI stakeholders in seven EU Member States and Associated Countries as well as the Indian DBT (Department for Biotechnology) and DST (Department for Science and Technology). The third call with DBT just closed its registration phase and takes cooperation to the innovation level by funding research institutes’ cooperation with SMEs. By bringing together Indian and European researchers and innovation actors to jointly work on topics of mutual interest, NPP is paving the way to high quality collaborative research.

Involving more then 60 scientists from ten countries, thirteen scientific projects in the field of Biotechnology and Health were funded under the first NPP call. You may follow their traces by reading through the New Indigo Cooperation Stories. These projects had opportunity to meet with each other and presented their results during the “EU-India S&T Days” that were held Vienna in December 2011. Dedicated to scientific networking and cross-level exchange, the event gathered more than 130 scientists, policy-makers, research funders and innovation actors from India and Europe. The positive feedback from the political as well as from the scientific side showed the demand of New Indigo’s support to multilateral networking activities.

As an outcome of the second NPP call, another nine EU-India projects in the field of water related challenges are going to present their first results during the third EU-India S&T Cooperation Days in Hyderabad in November 2012. Information on the event will be available on this website, soon!
